This explainer is all about The Bubbler, and I’m not talking about where you get water. Wondering how to get creative in your community? Madison’s libraries have the program for you.

The History of The Bubbler

The Bubbler launched in 2013 following renovations to Madison’s Central Library. This initiative connects artists to the community and vice-versa. With a range of free hands-on events, exhibitions, and activities, there are countless opportunities to get involved.

The project aims to create a space where artists can explore diverse mediums and receive valuable guidance from local professionals.

Where Is The Bubbler?

The Bubbler Room is located in the Central Library. However, the project expands beyond just Madison libraries. The Bubbler also works with schools, the justice system, and the community as a whole.

How To Get Involved

Community members can engage by attending the regular drop-in hours held in the Bubbler Room. Outside of that, they offer many events from talks to workshops. Here is the event calendar.

Artist-in-Residence Program

Every year, the Bubbler Team matches a community teaching artist to each of the nine neighborhood libraries for the summer. For artists, they open applications for exhibition spaces, artist-in-residence, and more so make sure to check their website.
