Your Daily Guide

Good morning, Madison! Today’s newsletter is bittersweet for me because it’s my last newsletter with Madison Minutes for a while. I have loved the opportunity to be the interim newsletter editor for Madison Minutes. I will now be working in a different position at City Cast, filling in for newsletter editors all over the country.

In exciting news, we are happy to announce our new full-time newsletter editor, Rob Thomas! Many of you may know Rob for his work and dedication to the Cap Times. I’ll let Rob introduce himself more in his first newsletter on Monday! Sorry for the longer intro today, that’s enough sappiness from me. Thank you so much, Madison. 🫶

What Madison's Talking About

🧱 So Personalized Bricks Aren’t Here To Stay?

  • The Hall of Fame Brick Walk on UW-Madison's campus is set to be demolished. This is located outside of the Camp Randall Sports Center, better known as the Shell, which is soon being remodeled for a new athletic facility.
  • The walk has been around since the early 1990s, and people who paid to have a brick in the walkway were told that it would be permanent. If you have a brick in the walkway, you can register to pick it up by Sept. 8.
  • To learn more, check out today’s Friday news roundup where incoming newsletter editor Rob Thomas makes his podcast debut to dish about the brick drama. Plus executive producer Hayley Sperling and I talk traffic changes that are coming to the isthmus soon (AKA get ready for lane closures and big buses!). Friday Floof

A dog sitting outside.

Lily enjoyed her “brat summer.” (Tyler T.)

Seven-year-old Lily is a rambunctious fan of Charli XCX and The Savannah Bananas. She loves dried turkey necks and yanking on her leash. She’s on record as saying, “I wish my dad would give me more attention when he’s reading Madison Minutes.”

Correction — In our newsletter Sept. 4, we covered a new survey discussing rent costs for students at UW-Madison. There was an inaccurate number within that story. According to the survey commissioned by the city and UW, the average rent cost for students is $1,273, not $1,723. Thank you to reader Kasia R. for catching this error!
