| 🧊 ICE Made Several Arrests in Milwaukee | - Over the weekend, federal immigration agents arrested 18 people: 17 in Milwaukee and one in Waukesha, according to Voces de la Frontera, an immigrant advocacy group.
- This wave of arrests is likely the largest in Milwaukee since President Trump started his second term. The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that ICE was carrying out “targeted operations.”
- ⚖️ Know Your Rights: If you suspect you’re encountering ICE agents, then it’s important to know your rights and what agents are and aren’t permitted to do. Voces de la Frontera has a helpful “Civil Rights Card” to carry, and other resources for undocumented people. [🔒 Wisconsin State Journal, Wisconsin Watch, Voces de la Frontera]
| | 🚌 Holiday Weekend City Services Changes | | | ⚖️ Shooting Victim’s Family Seeks $4 Million From City | - The family of Christine Jones allege Madison Police failed to properly investigate a previous shooting by the person who was charged with killing 61-year-old Jones in March.
- Deputy City Attorney Patricia Lauten said the family’s claim is under investigation by the city’s insurance company.
- No Madison police officers named in the claim are on leave. [Cap Times]
| | 🤱 WI Moms Now Get 12 Months Medicaid Coverage | - Before the extension, Wisconsin moms on Medicaid only had coverage for 60 days after giving birth.
- Other states with a 12-month policy have seen a 50% decline in infant mortality rates since extending coverage.
- The state health department says most people enrolled in the pregnancy option of BadgerCare Plus will have their coverage automatically extended. Those whose coverage has lapsed due to the previous 60-day limit can call to request their coverage be reinstated. [Cap Times]

📰 Extra! Extra! A new WalletHub report ranks Madison fifth in “Most Educated Cities in America.” This report took into account the share of adults with college degrees and the quality of the public school system. To toot Madison’s horn further (louder?) it also ranked third-highest in share of high school diploma holders and fourth-highest in share of associate degree holders 🎓 |
