Your Daily Guide

Good morning, Madison! Go with me on this. If today’s City Cast Madison newsletter was a person, it’d be your favorite neighbor on the block. The one who tells you what’s going on with data centers in Madison, recommends which local spots have the best fall drinks, and gives you a heads-up that your favorite comedian is coming to town.

That’s what we do, every day. And that’s why we call our membership program City Cast Madison Neighbors, because together we are a community that lives, works, and plays together.

We just launched our fall campaign and we’re looking for 125 people to contribute $10 a month (or $100 per year) during our fall campaign. That’s about 50 cents per day to support both the newsletter and the podcast, and get all the cool perks that only come with membership. We’d love to have you join our Neighborhood!

💻 Madison’s Data Center Pause is Almost Over: With three months to go until Madison’s one-year data center moratorium expires, city staff are beginning to consider where and how data centers might be allowed in the city. The proposed rules would limit data centers to the industrial areas in the city’s far east and southeast side, as well as limit noise. [🔒WSJ]

The Best Fall Drinks To Try in Madison

It’s October! That means all us Mr. Autumn Men and Ms. Autumn Women are putting on those cardigans and enjoying the flavors of fall. (Notwithstanding you freaks who have been ordering pumpkin spice lattes since late August.)

Here are a few places around Madison who are serving up special fall beverages, from flavored lattes in the morning to autumnal alcoholic concoctions at night.

Barriques

The local coffee chain’s autumn drink menu includes the special PSL, but I tried the Maple Pumpkin Matcha Latte, which includes the two standard fall drink flavors, but is also green enough to still remind us of summer.

Good News Ice Cream

The ice cream shop on King Street recommends getting its pumpkin spice latte iced so the whipped cream and pumpkin spice cold foam on top lasts longer. And if that wasn’t sweet enough, they add a mini pumpkin spice donut as a garnish.

Ancora Coffee Roasters

Ancora has a full line-up of limited edition fall drinks, including a miso pumpkin spice cold brew and a caramel black sesame zombie. I went with the sweet/savory salted maple latte (at the Maple Bluff location, of course).

Madison Chocolate Company

The Alchemist is back! Madison Chocolate’s popular fall drink mixes together fall spices, brown sugar, single origin espresso, and black walnut bitters. It’s like a brisk walk in the woods in drink form.

Oasis Cafe

The Fitchburg cafe embraces the end of summer with its Back-2-School Spritz, a cold pick-me-up that combines seltzer water, pomegranate syrup, strawberry syrup, and Lotus Energy.

📣 Anna S. wanted to shout out Dave Van at Madison Makers Market! “He showcases the best crafty talent around with his plethora of market events. Such a fun way to shop local.”

If you’re a City Cast Madison Neighbor, send us your shoutouts and we’ll feature them on the podcast and in the newsletter! And if you’re not yet one of our members, you know what to do!
