With the recent snowfall, it’s officially time to bundle up in your best socks, scarves, and sweaters. Getting cozy at home is one thing, but finding cozy corners of the city can be tough if you don’t know where to look. Here are some of Madison’s coziest spots.

Located inside UW-Madison’s Memorial Union, Der Rathskeller has classic German beer hall decor and rustic vibes. It’s the perfect place to cozy up with a pitcher of Spotted Cow and snack on some popcorn while listening to whatever live band is playing or sitting down to read your favorite newsletter.

Hot tip: If you pay with a Wiscard, you’ll receive a 10% discount.

Books, cocktails, and coffee, what could be more cozy than that? Leopold’s on Regent Street has a curated selection of books along with an accompanying wine and cocktail list that can spice up any afternoon reading. The art-deco-style bar offers plenty of non-alcoholic options, too.

While you’re in the neighborhood, stop by Fabiola's Spaghetti House and Deli for more cozy and retro vibes.

For many, cozy time means tea time and one of Madison’s best spots for a hot (or cold!) cup is Sencha Tea Bar on State Street. Between the wide drink selection, friendly staff, and strong wi-fi, Sencha is a great option for anyone looking for a new work-from-home spot.

Located in the heart of downtown, Nattspil isn’t your typical Chinese/pizza/disco restaurant. (Though there isn’t anything quite typical about Nattspil in that sense!) Drenched in low red lights and usually buzzing with house music beats, Nattspil is great for those looking to have a night out without the effort.

If you’re there for dinner, absolutely go for the Three Cup, which can be made with chicken or tofu. It’s sure to become your go-to winter meal.

Have you ever wanted to visit a tropical paradise in the middle of winter? Olbrich Gardens’ Bolz Conservatory is a glass pyramid filled with exotic plants, bright flowers, and free-flying birds. Not necessarily cozy in the typical sense of the word, but the conservatory is a well-loved getaway for Madisonians in search of humidity during the cold months.

Honorable Mentions

Of course there are more places around town than the ones listed above. For more ambiance, check out Lola’s Hi-Lo Lounge on the north side. For those who like a little smoke, Maduro on the Square is the place to be. For cozy east-side bars, Robin Room and Caribou Tavern are both great options. Need coffee? Try Hodge Podge, Indie Coffee, or Forward Craft & Coffee for great brews and vibes.
