It’s officially soup season in Wisconsin. Whether you’re looking to cozy up with one of the classics or try something new, here’s some of the best Madison has to offer.

Feeling Fancy?

If you’re planning a night out, check out these swanky spots for soups.

Osteria Papavero: Go for the Wild Mushroom Soup if you’re looking for rich and hearty flavors. And before you go, get to know more about Papavero’s Chef Francesco Mangano.

Harvey House: Don’t miss the French onion bouillon. “It is simply the tastiest soup and their presentation when serving it is part of the experience. Must have!” Reader Amanda I. said.

Eno Vino: Try the charred tomato soup. “You can’t beat the flavor and it has a bunch of extras like pine nuts and truffled microgreens,” reader Alissa P. said.

Let’s Get Cozy

If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, grab your sweaters and head to these spots.

Ahan: There are almost too many good soups to choose from at Ahan. Do yourself a favor and try them all this winter. Start with the Khao Poon Kathi Dang or Pho Thai.

Marigold Kitchen: This downtown spot offers a rotating selection of soups that reader Chris M. called “pure alchemy in a soup pot!”

Morris Ramen: No question about it, get the ramen. “By far the best soup made by a state representative,” reader Ross L. said of the restaurant, which is owned in part by Madison state Rep. Francesca Hong.

Weary Traveler Freehouse: Try the Hungarian Goulash. “The spicy flavor loaded broth with generous chunks of tender beef is sure to warm the belly and soul,” reader Kristie G. said.

Keepin’ It Simple

If you’re low on time or simply not in the mood to make a reservation, here are some suggestions for a quick bite.

Himal Chuli: Get a cup (or a whole bowl) of the dal. It’s savory, salty, and everything you need to feel nourished on a cold day.

Stalzy’s Deli & Bakery: This New York-style joint has a lot to love when it comes to soups. The mushroom barley is a hearty offering and the matzo ball is a personal favorite.

Oak Crest Tavern: This bar on the west side offers a hearty chili, a soup of the day, and a casual Wisconsin atmosphere.

Milio’s: What’s better than soup with your sandwich? The sandwich shop has a soup of the week and a daily special throughout fall and winter that reader Katie M. said makes a great lunch!

Honorable Mentions

There were too many good soup suggestions to pass up! Here are a few more local spots with stellar soups: Turkish Kitchen, La Taguara, Hot Lunch, Madison Sourdough, Pho Nam, and Sala Thai.
